What's it worth in your neck of the woods? Guy asked me to do some, I don't even know what it's going for.

Here in western Montana the usual split is 50/50 or cash for half the going sale price if they want all the hay. Right now grass hay is going for 75.00/ton in the field. So I would get 37.50 a ton cash for all the hay baled. If I need more hay for my cows I keep half the hay. Due to higher costs some guys are going to a 60/40 split. A point for profit, I will not do a field that is not fertilized as you will loose money on that deal.

I guess we don't exactly have runaway inflation in the custom haying business. I last did custom haying about 25 years ago- Got $1 per bale left on the ground.

I live on the fringes of Louisville Kentucky. There is a large number of "week-end farmers" wanting small amounts of hay baled. IF I have time, I'll do some of it for them.

Under 250 bales, $1.75 a bale, left on the ground.
Under 500 bales, $1.25 a bale, left on the ground
Over 500 bales, $1.00 a bale, left on the ground
WILL NOT LOAD, or HANDLE THEIR HAY! John

45-60 cents a bale for driver, tractor, fuel, and twine. No labor, no wagon, no help. Upper end is for pulling a wagon, lower end is dropped on the ground
