I own a 1964 ford 4000 D tractor four cylinder 172 cid. The fuel return line to the tractor was blocked off by the person I bought the tractor from. He told me if the line was not blocked, fuel will leak into the oil pan. The line comes out of the front bottom of the fuel tank and goes to the head. I have posted a couple of times asking for help about this problem ,but now have a little more info to add. I spoke to a tractor parts owner today and he told me the return line comes into the head and can be accessed by removing the valve cover. He said there is a line that has some kind of valve that allows un-used fuel to return to the fuel tank. He said this is a common problem, but is not sure how to fix it. does anyone know anything about this valve and how to fix the problem?? I am running into dead ends everywhere I check!!Thanks for any help!! Russ

You're good and persistent. If you remind me enough times, I'll be a man of my word and remember to look when I get home.

When I get home in the afternoon I go nuts (to play with my toys) and whatever went on that day is gone. Since I read your post during the day it's gone too. I'll try harder to be helpful.

Mark

Thanks Mark!! I have to write myself notes, so don't be to hard on yourself. This tractor problem is very frustrating. I have been to a ford tractor shop, called several ford dealers and no one knows anything about my fuel return line! Someone out there knows how to fix this problem, so I will keep asking until I find the answer. The last guy I talked to said he thought I needed to change, what he called the "rubbers" Which are located somewhere in the fuel return line under the valve cover. Thanks for any help you can give me!! Russ

I forgot again. Man I'm sorry. I worked on my baler and helped a neighbor with a green pto problem, even climbed onto my 3 cyl 2000 to go and visit him and the thought never occurred to me.

I just bought a MF and went to the manuals section on this site. While there I broused the Ford manuals. They have like a 2500 page manual for the Ford 2000, one for the 3 and another for the 4. I'd bet in all that paper is the "correct" answer. The manual is pricy, but what is money? If you want the thing fixed you want it fixed. If it costs $200 for a manual then that's what it costs. Besides there ought to be a ton of other info that you'll find useful.

I'll keep trying.

Mark
