photo adds has a 1926 whippet tractor. It must be very rare as I have never seen or heard of one.
I can't find any refernce to this tractor in my books. Anyone know what one of these is worth?

Don't know about a tractor, but Whippet did market an automobile. Made by Willys-Overland, maybe about 1915-1930.

The Whippet was a small light car, with dimensions and power close to Model T Ford. Like Bus driver said, and there were literally dozens of conversion companies that sold kits to turn your used car into a light truck or farm tractor. A very light duty tractor, as the babbit bearings, and cooling system of that era couldn't handle much more than a team of horses could. John in Ne.

There was an article in "Antique Power" May/June about a company that made conversion kits for many autos of that approximate vintage. Could it possibly be one of these? The company was Otaca Ltd. of Orillo, Ontario The conversions were adverised as 'Autotrac's. I seem to remember that the Whippet was a british car and were also manufactured and sold in the states by American Bantam.

I think the Wippet was made in Toledo, Ohio in what is now the Jeep factory, The Wippet was the cheap line, made both 4 & 6 cylinder cars along with the Willies Night cars that had a sleve valve engine

Iam very interested to hear this as I live in Orillia Ontario where Otaco used to be. Never have heard of the Whippet or any conversions though. Is there an internet site with information on this? I would be very interested! --Jeff

Hi Jeff, Simcoe County Museum has an Autotrac kit on a Model "A" Ford that we take to many local shows and events. It is also on permanent display at the Museum between May 1 and Dec. 1.
TACO began production around 1937/38 and continued to offer it until the early 60's. Approximately 6400 kits were produced. Kits could be ordered to fit most cars, including Ford A's and T's, Chevs, Pontiac, Star/Durant. Please contact me if you would like more info.
