Clark forklift project....continued......

Well, this one is being easy enough, so far.....a new battery, and cleaning up the 60ish years of corrosion from the cables, and the rust from under the ground cable has it cranking over nicely....

I pulled the fuel tank, and dumped out some rather dramatically stale fuel....the fuel was so old that it was the red-dyed leaded gasoline which hasn't been sold in California for quite a few years time....

A gallon of "Berrymans" carby cleaning solvent in the tank, and some low-pressure air through the tank fitting to "froth/agitate" the solvent awhile, seemed to take the varnish out nicely enough.....fortunately, the tank had never rusted inside.

Now, tho, I would really appreciate a bit of help, if possible.....a friend whose father had a forklift rebuilding business, years ago, said the engine will be a Continental "F124", or "4124".

We did run the engine briefly from an aux fuel tank, and it seemed sound, so, hopefully, all it will want will be an oil change, a bit of a tune-up, and I'll have the side-plate off to check the valve clearances, just to "play safe" about not burning any valves.

Does anyone have a manual for that engine, and would care to sell it, or could make me a copy?

And....is there any chance that someone here might have some of the "tune-up" parts for one of these on a shelf somewhere? If possible, I'd like to fit a new dist. cap, points, condenser, plugs, etc,....or, could anyone recommend a supplier for those parts who wouldn't try to nail us for "classic" prices???

cheers

Carla

Try this place for parts and, possibly, a manual.

Sounds like you might have a good one. What ever you do with the old gas dont try and mix it with good and reuse it. I tryed that and caused a big case of sticking valves, and a lot of down time. The old gas came from a truck I was turning into scrap metal.Good luck on your project. stan

Carla, Have you tried a NAPA store? They should be a to get these parts. Sometimes you have to try several stores to find one that is willing to look & search for you. But when you find a store willing to find the unusual parts, please reward them with all of your auto parts business..... Regards, Davis
