customer of mine has a 560 he's thinking of selling . Said he put new liners , bearings, valve job . Now it is popping through intake?? 'He says it needs valves, that these tractors were hard on them . Any truth to this? gas motor by the way . Price is cheap enough , has new rubber all around , wide front , power steering . Any thoughts or comments on 560's in general ? Thanks Bryan

These tractors were hard on valves if you didn't keep them in adjustment. We have a 560 and each year I check the valve adjustment. The first year after a major overhaul, the valve clearance had tightened somewhat due to the valves seating. After that, I would check each year but to date, no adjustment has been required. It is going on 25 years without a burnt valve. Keep them adjusted and you will be fine. (After you fix it of course)

560? Good overall tractor- well developement of M. Family farm has a diesel, works good enough most things needing 50HP. Gas engine valves?- Hoards Dairyman and Wallaces Farmer had articles years back about tractors designed at leaded gas time using unleaded gas- IHC (and others)engines running over 1500RPM somewhat at risk- suggestions were for annual (or more frequent)valve adjustments and 1 cup low ash motor oil to 5-10 gallons gas, valve grinding/lapping as part of magor maintenance, rebuilding head to LP gas specs ($$) with stellite valve seats and hardened valves. Maintain 30+ year old tractor, adjust TA properly, change oil, check air cleaner and battery cables, run it another 30 years. RN.
