I do discing and mowing. I haul my tractor to the job. Is a fee to move my equipment to a job sight practicle? I charge by the hour, and start the clock when the wheels start turing on my tractor. I have heard some charge a moving fee. What is your opinion? Thanks, Stan

Most also have a one hour minimum, or charge more for the first hour, or some such- but you'll probably have to "hide" the moving fee in some manner, because most till/mow/bush-hog guys don't charge for the move(on the other hand, bulldozer/backhoe guys always do- go figure). When you think about it, there really isn't much cost to moving a small machine- you would have driven there with your pickup anyhow, even if only doing hand labor.

My opinion is to learn what your competition does and what the common practice is in your area. In my area most customers won't pay for travel so the contractors just build it into their rates. Often they will quote a higher hourly or per acre rate to a customer who is far away.
