Just bought a MF tractor past weekend....think its' a TE20, has the Z-120 motor, Steering gear cover and Clutch cover is one piece, serial number is 180040, with what appears to be an A in front. Both starter and alternator are replacements. Anybody got an idea?

Thanks,

George H

George, Sounds like a TE to me. Another thing to check is the material of the transmission housing. TO is cast iron whereas TE's used magnesium. Check it with a magnet. One of the problems I fond on the TE is that there is no way to drain the oil out of the steering box. I drilled and tapped mine for an 1/8 pipe plug in the lower front corner on the left hand side. Good luck with the new toy.

Look it up over on the left...I think it is in galleries and help identify. You have to tell it what kind of tractor you have and then look down the list till you find your serial number range. Anyhow, go over there and click on galleries and follow your nose. If you can't find it...post again...someone will help you. Fred OH

Thanks for the help, folks. I removed the paint on the identification tag under the steering wheel, and after reading a bunch of stuff on various sites, determined it to be a TEA-20, that is, as I now know, a 20 made in England with a Standard, as opposed to Continental engine. It has the left side external oil filter, the one piece tranny cover/steering gear, and it says TEA 180040 on the tag, making it a '53. Just finished re-wiring it and installing a new altnernator. It's charging about 30 amps at working speed, about 5 at idle. Does this sound OK, or is it high? Wondering if the voltage regulator is working...thanks again for the help.
