I have wanted a dozer to use around the farm for years. I would like to have a Cat or JD, but they are out of my price range. I keep seeing Mitsubishi dozers that are fairly priced. Has anyone had a good or bad experience with the Mitsubishi, is it a good dozer or a piece of foreign junk with expensive parts?

Thanks

Sorry guys I haven't got back with you. I have been busy working on a Puckett Brothers grader for my son-in-law. What I'm looking for is something the size of a JD 350 or 450 with a 6-way blade. I said Cat and JD, but it could be a Case, AC or International, not hung up on one brand. As for price, I would hope I could find something under $8,000.00.

Whatever you buy make sure it has the 6 way blade you were talking about. Also make sure it has a torque converter type trans.
I could be wrong but I've heard that special tools are needed to perform repairs on the cats and jd's.
I was looking at the small american dozers that Kurt mentioned, they look pretty good, but they were a bit to much like a "toy" for me to buy, but one of them might be perfect for you.
By the way I paid 10500 for my 350 Case this spring. It has a fairly new undercarraige, so I paid a little more then some of the others I was looking at.
Look around for awhile before you buy, what I did was let my friendly local machinary dealer know I was in the market for a dozer. Everytime he took one in on trade or whatever he called and I checked them out. It took about 5 months but he finally got the dozer I now own, you know how it goes, only driven to church on sundays by a little old lady..... ..lol.

Who do you think makes the D-3,4-and 5's for CAT????? ??? (low drives) Well, Mitsubishi does!! Just be carefull you don't buy a grey market one, as they can be hard to get parts for.

My vote goes to a Case 450 for a less expensive smaller older dozer!! Has the older JD's beat all to heck!!!

Well, you learn something new ever day. If I decide to buy a used Mitsubishi, how can I tell it's not a gray market Mitsubishi and what is the Cat D-3 and 4 under the Mitsubishi nametag?

Thanks

Get the serial number and ask a Mitsu dealer, they will tell you instantly if it's grey market or not. They don't like to supply parts for grey market tractors, so.....

I'm not sure i understand your second question???

Go to the "crawler forum", read it for a while, and you will soon see what brand of older dozers are holding up best.

Go to www.struckcorp.com This is a company that makes small dozers and front end loaders, if I remember right you can get a new 25HP dozer (all USA made) for about $13K, with a Kohler engine. I dont know how much you want to spend but I would seriously think about a Struck crawler for $13K vs. a utility tractor for the same money.

Do not know about the construction equipment, but Toro uses Mitsubishi in some of their big lawn equipment and man are they proud of their parts for the engine, not a bad engine, just pricy. Do not know if that is Toro or Mitsubishi.
What are you looking for and what do you call expensive??

I was in the same boat you are, wanted a dozer, seemed to always see jobs I needed to use one for. A few years ago I rented one, got a 550G Deere for a little over a thousand a week (pretty cheap considering repair costs). Got a lot of stuff done and learned a lot. Mainly that it was the wrong size for me to own, I needed something smaller for every day and something bigger every so often. I bought a skid loader (65 hp) with tracks (got it for $6000, really good 1845C Case plus $700 for tracks and spacers). I can do more with it than I can with a dozer (never realized how much I needed the skid loader, stacked 100 round bales perfectly in the barn yesterday in a little over an hour). Then, when I get enough jobs saved up for a really big dozer I go rent one.

Yeah, one of my next toys is gonna be a skidsteer. I just wanted a dozer, around here literally every other house has a skidsteer. I'm in the middle of bluestone country and everyone has a skidsteer. Whats nice about the dozer is that I've been able to keep it busy about one day a week on small jobs. It's paying for it's self, where a skidsteer wouldnt cause nobody will hire you out cause everyone has a buddy to borrow one off of, lol.
One thing that seems strange to me is that I actually enjoy working on the bulldozer, I hate working on everything else.

Don't forget Case, I have a 350 which works great, they usually can be had for less then a jd or cat. Plus it seems real easy to work on.

Parts could be a problem. Have a friend who has a Mitsubishi tractor and he needed a rocker arm assembly. Had to be shipped from Japan and took close to eight weeks.
