I am thinking of getting a 6 foot 3 point King Kutter finish mower to put behind my Super C. I want to use it to cut my orchard and field. I usually let the grass get about a foot tall then cut it down to 4 inches. It is good clear ground without any stumps or rocks. I am currently using a 4 foot brush hog but I want something that is as wide as the tractor. I don't think my Super C will handle a 6 foot brush hog or lift it for that matter. Plus the swing radius of a 6 foot brush hog is a lot. I think the finish mower will do a nicer looking job. Do any of you guys have any experience using one of these mowers in somewhat tall grass? The advertising says for finish mowing only. Thanks for the help.

Let me mention something that no one has posted on the subject yet. I use a Woods 5' finish mower and with the cost of a new drive belt at around $65+ each...it is a no brainer that I will never cut anything over six inches high...with a belt that is not much over one half inch in thickness and pulling three blades...and never let the blades get dull. To me, it just doesn't make sense to put that much strain on the belt. I haven't looked at the setup on the King Kutter...but I imagine it is similar. My suggestion would be to bush hog the field first and then keep it cut with the finish mower...but don't let it get over six inches high. Fred OH

I've had the same experence as Mike M. A finish mower takes more power to run that a rotary cutter!! It going to take 2 or more pass' to cut 12" grass with a finish mower, and it's going to take a lot of HP to get the job done woth a 6' mower!! I think you are going to want more HP than you have.

I've used a KK and also a Woods, personally, i'd pay more and get the Woods!!

Robert

I have a Landpride 2572 (6') finish mower. I bought it because I wanted a nicer cut than what my brush hog was doing. This particular model is a rear discharge. I love it. I pull it with a 50 hp John Deere. Not knowing much about your tractor, I couldn't say how it will perform. I have mowed grass over 2' tall. It takes a couple of passes but will do it. I don't think you would have any problem with grass 10" - 12" tall. The mower if used and maintained regularly will do close to the same job as a riding lawnmower.

I usea good running Ford 2N in just your situation with a 6 foot KK finish mower. Here's what works: unbolt the silly discharge shoot. That silly bar is just a place for discharge to get hung up. This gets you off the tractor all the time unclogging it.....way more unsafe than what the guard provides.....otherwise, it's been a great mower.

Take Care
Steve

In my experience a brush hog type mower will cut taller stuff and take less power than a finish mower. I think a 6 foot mower is more than likely too big for your tractor.

Duane,

Don't know a thing about your C nor the 6ft Kutter, but would like to share this with you:

I bought the 7' heavy duty King Kutter because compared to the Woods, it is just a heavier built unit and I liked the idea that it is a 'convertable' so I can use it as a trail behind mower if I so desired.

Fine. I hooked it up and it works just great and pulls relatively easy. But the thing I really noticed about this mower is the weight...It is HEAVY!

It feels just like an IH 3 bottom spinner plow back there and it is pretty easy to lift the front end of the tractor off the ground at times if a guy isn't careful.

Now, your 6' finish model should be quite a bit lighter as it is rigged as Cat I. Just be sure your C will lift the guy.

Hope ya get 'er figured out,

Allan

I have a King Kutter 6' finish mower behind a 300U. It does a fine job on lawn grass. I have some trails that I keep mowed to run the quad on etc. If the grass gets 10" high or so the mower bogs right down. The tractor has plenty of power, mower can't keep up. So I raise it up and make as many passes as it takes. Also I'm re-cutting the dead cut from last time and from the first pass.

If it is Rear discharge, it would go thru a lot more than a side discharge... I have a Woods finish mower ( 72" ) SIDE-Discharge, and when I get into really high grass in low ground....the discharge plugs, if I don't raise it up some with the 3-point.. Now, that is Full grown Un-Cut low-ground water-shed type grass that is 3 feet tall or more... 12" grass would not cause me any problems, and mine is set to cut at 2 1/2"...
