I have a 94 vw jetta turbo diesel, good car but sumetimes parts a a bit outragious.Monday I drove a mile to town and lost power steering, got back home to find a large puddle of fluid in the driveway and the suction hose dangling, missing a o ring.Phone vw dealer for a o ring, not avaliable, pump must be replaced at near $850 plus tax for the part.
the replacement pump has a retaining plate that keeps the hose secured in place.the original is pushed in relieing on the o ring to hold it all together.Long and short,a trip to napa and less than $20 for a o ring, degreaser& j. b weld and I am back on the road.Get stubborn when the saythe $850 part is toast because the 15 cent part is not availiable. The jb does the job of the retaining plate in the updated design.

Couple weeks ago on Saturday night, I was getting stuff ready for church on Sunday, well my belt buckle came apart. I JB welded it back together, been almost 2 weeks and still holding...Jim

Al,
We've had good luck with JB Weld, too. A year or so ago the harmonic dampener on my Ford's 351W came apart and milled out a 3" slot straight through the aluminum timing cover on the engine. It didn't touch the timing chain, but it leaked a lot of oil. I cleaned the surface as well as possible and patched it with JB Weld. Haven't had a single drop leak through yet and we've put about 6,000 miles on that truck since. Also used it to install a stud in my tractor where the threads in the casting were stripped beyond belief-- no problems there yet, either. Now, the air compressor tank I was given that had a JB Weld patch got scrapped. Some things just shouldn't be JB Welded...

Best of luck with your power steering pump,
Darren

I also could share some success stories using J.B. weld, I could also relate some miserable failures, but it is always worth at least trying. It sounds like it worked for you.

I used J B Weld to repair a crack in the steering housing on my Farmall 504. Cleaned up around the crack with a small grinding stone and swabed it down with acetone. So far no oil is leaking.

I used jb on the kids honda 70 when ;they were little. The kids striped the spark plug threads in the head. They wanted to ride so i used jb on the spark plug after cleaning it really good figring that would satisfy the kids for at least an hour or 2 till i put another head on it. That sparkplug never did come out.
