I think I need a new coil on my JD M. The tractor has been converted to a 12 volt. Is there any special coil I need or will most any 12 volt work, and which auto parts dealer has the best priced new coils? trying to save a few bucks if I can. thanks for any help

3.0 ohm coils can run direct to 12V. 1.5 ohm coils require a ballast resisitor to drop coil voltage to 6V when used on 12V systems. A 1.5 ohm coil is fine without a ballast on a 6.0V tractor.

No! There are two types of coils. One says "for use with external resistor only" the other says "for use without external resistor". The type is actually printed directly on the coil. Use the wrong one and you fry your points.

I get mine at NAPA.
