I've was dealing over the phone with a guy who wanted to trade a 1957 JD B with a factory loader for some guns. That got me wondering right away, cuz I knew they stopped production in '52. I pull my trailer 100 plus miles to look at it. Went up this road from hell to get to his place with my 28 ft gooseneck. He said the metal was good, had a wfe, and ran good. When I looked at it, it appeared to have a wfe from a JD A welded to the front of the tractor. The sheetmetal looked like it had rolled, the loader was a cobbled up New HOlland loader, and the tractor wasn't running, it looked like it had been sitting along time. I'm not even sure if the engine was free. Needless to say, we didn't make a deal, but with all the BS he gave me, I told him if he got it running, that I was SURE somebody would give him $2500 for it, cuz it was a JD. I'm sure he believed me

Called a guy about a JD 40 bulldozer this winter. Ad said excellent condition. I called and said that I wanted something I could use right away. I would eventualy restore it but it HAD to be workable now. "Come on down, you won't be dissapointed".
It wouldn't start without a boost, three or four pads missing, three rollers were just floating around and not bolted, once it started there was enough blow by from the crank to run an impact. It wouldn't even haul itself around the yard. "New set of rings and bearings is all she needs" he says.
Three hundred miles round trip and a day from my family that I'll never have back. I didn't expect new but he did say excellent condition.
I won't go look at another one more then twenty miles from home.

Hello Dave, there's a general rule when you drive your truck and trailer to see a tractor. The further you drive, the crapier the tractor is. That's a bad one, well at least you didn't lose your mind and put a choke hold on him for 15 minutes, otherwise you might be emailing from the county jail.

I drove 200 miles one way to pick up a tractor
I bought over the phone in Ky.When I got there
the guy said he decided not to sell it. I found
out later he sold it to someone else.
