I have an IH 140 early 1970 vintage. Worked fine in the fall parked it in the garage enclosed and did not have the cultch in the spring.

Tractor runs fine, It can be started in gear and runs fine also. Can not shift gears with out shutting down engine. Push the pedal in nothing.

Could the pressure plate be stuck to the clutch disc???? I cannot see to much inside. Is there any way to tell without dismantling the tractor????? Any ideas?????

I suggest a method that should be a little less agressive and risky than a few mentioned. Place the tractor in the lowest gear that will turn over the motor without sliding the rear wheels while being towed at a slow speed. Turn off the fuel and ignition switch so that the engine will not start and have someone tow the tractor while you steer and hold the clutch in. If it has been stored out of the weather it should break loose. It would be much easier to split that small of a tractor in half and replace the clutch than repair the damage from a rollover(not to mention the risk to you health). I have spent some time on 140s and would advise against towing or running at highspeed and hitting the brakes. Best of luck!

Place crowbar in between pressure plate and clutch disc. Use a crowbar and a hammer and tap the crowbar real soft and wiggle it back and forth.

Another way I learned here and used it and had good success is to carefully, and with alot of room a long lane is nice is to block or wire clucth pedal down, then start tractor in highest gear you can get it rolling then trucker style let off the throttle and shift into high gear and get going fast hang onto the steering wheel good and expect tractor to jerk then press one of the brake pedals hard so it jerks tractor in a few jerks it should be free. Hang on ,Have lots of room, Be as careful as you can. Pressing both pedals at the same time does not seem to work only press one then maybe try the other.

The lined clutch disc is rusted to the flywheel and/or the pressure plate. Make sure the tractor is shut off, and cannot start, and, with the tranny in the highest gear, and the clutch pedal held down, vigorously rock the tractor back and forth with the aid of a friend or two until the clutch lets go. It may help to block the clutch pedal in the depressed position for a day or two before attempting this.

The other way is to CAREFULLY, WITH ADEQUATE MANUEVERING ROOM, start the tractor in gear and pull something with it, or use the brakes to load it, while the clutch pedal is held depressed, until the clutch finally lets go.

Some tractor manufacturers recommended blocking the clutch pedal down during periods of non-use to prevent this.

We hade same problem with our Ford 5000 after we pulled it out of flood waters. We tried everything that is mentioned but they all failed. Really didn't want to break it half to unlock it, so we thought of something alittle dangerous. We had a dozer & tied the tractor to it. Started the tractor up & let it eat. It stood up on it rear wheels, but it broke loose. But remember, this is very dangerous, for the tractor could roll over backwards.

My solution was to start the tractor in low gear and ease up against a large tree with the clutch pedal depressed. I then slipped the clutch after it freed until I smelled it getting hot, to rub off the rust. Of course you must have a front bumper or solid casting up front to protect the tractor.
