I made my own hydraulic top link. The picture someone else posted earlier is a cylinder with external bolts holding it together. They tend to be a bit longer than some other types compared to the piston rod travel length. Mine uses welded back cap and spiral internal lock ring on the rod end of the cylinder. Thus was able to use 10" rod travel. Cylinder must be at least 2 1/2" piston diameter for category 1 tractor. I also used pilot-operated check valve between the cylinder and the operating valve to prevent leakdown. The hydraulic upper link is a WONDERFUL addition to a tractor.

Keep in mind that average hydraulic cylinders aren't designed for the kind of forces a top link gets! So if you want it for plowing or for extreme duty, your better off buying one made for the job!! I've wrecked a couple std. cylinders useing them for extreme duty. CJ

I made my own. For my needs I used a cyl. with an 8 inch stroke. Also notice the nuckles on each end. They are needed to keep from brakeing the cyl. yokes.

When I hook up to my back blade or snowblower or anyother 3 point equipment. If you need to tip it, it is alot nicer to stay in the cab and pull a lever rather than get off and crank on a top link. It really works well if you have 3 pt. boom and need to pick something up and move, load it. With the boom I made and the hyd. top link I can pick anything off the ground and raise it 15 feet in the air.
And no, that isnt a stupid ? I would never have thought off it myself if a friend who farms down the road from me hadnt suggested it to me.

This sounds real interesting - could you post some pics of the boom setup - I can't get in my mind how it would pick pick up that high? Thanx, Irv

GG,

Don't know what you are talking about. What is a hydraulic top link?

Do you mean a 3 point center link?

Allan
