I'm considering buying a AC WD and wondering how much housepower they have. I currently have a 2010 JD, but it seems to overheat when I'm mower. Any advice?

I got so "wrapped up" with furnace filter material that I forgot to mention that I have done a lot of cutting with a WD using a Land Pride 2572 Rotary Cutter. That is a 900 lb six foot heavy duty (110HP gearbox) unit. It definately taxes the WD beyond the max on occasion and I have to compensate by taking less than a full swath (5' tall swamp grass to include some brush) while using full throttle. My WD has never overheated doing this. That's what the tractor was made for. It will make the front end of the tractor light and you have to be careful, however the cutter does have a tail wheel so that helps. A loader or other weight on the front end would fix that.

I've almost completely eliminated the need to clean radiator fins by bungeeing furnace filter material (the kind you can buy in rolls) over the front grill. Much easier and faster to clean or replace than cleaning the fins.

I like WD's, but the 2010 has too many advantages over the WD. The 2010 has 10 more HP than the WD. If the overheating has anything to do with power your trade is not the answer. I agree with JMS/MN, find the cause of your overheating problem. One quick example of my stupidity. My combine kept running warmer and warmer one year. I worried about all that could be wrong. I finished harvest and got it home and hosed out the radiator fins. I couldn't believe all the stuff in the fins. Its awonder the combine could cool at all. Mowing is notorious for plugging radiator. Try to find the overheating problem and keep the tractor. JMO

30 drawbar/34 belt/pto. Overheating problems might be a bad thermostat, loose belt, clogged radiator fins- good to clean occasionally with a pressure washer.
