IH made many different sizes of Hydro tractors, 544 (50 hp) 656/666/H70/H86 (60 hp),H-84(55 HP), H-100 (100 HP) 826, 966, 1066, H-186. Bermuda Ken has been writing a series of articles for Red Power Mag. about IH's Hydro tractors. Very informative!

Instead of conventional mechanical gears, IH went with a variable displacement hydraulic pump and drive motor. It's a neat concept.

There was a drawback to this design as the hydro drive was not as efficient as a mechanical drive thus a 656 standard drive would outperform a 656 Hydro in certain applications. This caused a number of complaints from customers.

Hydrostatic drive, infinite speed range with one lever. I think the 656 Hydro was one production model number, about 60-70 hp?
