Carl I did that for MT Bell for 17 years, but in 1980 when ole judge Green broke them up we all were left hanging with a whole lot of specialized equipment. We had over 21 Ditch Witchs from 7 HP to the rare 200HP one, plows, trenchers, backhoe, boreing machines, etc.
Now that said, it was with older models than they have now so not up to date here. But they have been good about making a backhoe for about every machine.
It is a bit scary today with all that fiber optic cable in the ground, can put you in the poor house in a hurry if not careful and have very good insurance. Even then they will check very closely to see if you did all possable to prevent cutting/damageing the cable. If he goes into this remmind him it's locate, locate and locate and don't be afraid to use a shovel to verify any buired utilities. Never ever take anyones word on how deep or where a utility is buried, never seen one right yet with out a locator.
If you would like to talke more let me know here and I will send you my email address, be glad to help what I can.
Bob
