Our 1070 a/c compressor locked up, have the new one and after a system vacuum how much oil should I put in the compressor? The little tag with it says to check the vehicle recommendation and then add half that amount directly then half of it through the suction side once the system is operable.

if i remember correctly, your 1070 has a tecumseh compressor.this would be the stand up design instead of the round type.it takes 11 ounces of oil.there is a hex head plug on the side that you put oil in.the plug should be taken out and the assembly oil drained.put in new oil and turn compressor about twenty turns before letting the engine turn it.install a new receiver drier.those little oil-coolant cans only hold 2 ounces of oil.pour 7 ounces in the compressor and two 2 ounce cans of oil with the coolant thru the suction side.

You are correct about the compressor! Sounds like you have the right figures. I did one several years ago and couldn't remember exactly but 12 ounces came to my head. Thanks for the great info!

Shane,
It's been awhile, so my imputs may not be totally correct. Find out how much is called for in the compressor and check the compressor. There should be plug on the side of the pump to put a dip stick in it to check. Then add the oil. Remember, a system that has too much oil in isn't going to operate and cool efficiently. Just as one that doesn't have enough oil in it will not last very long. It would be advisable to change out the reciever drier at the same time of the compressor change. It doesn't cost a whole lot in comparison, and if the old compressor locked up it is most likely saturated and dirty.
