Hi, I just bought a Case 431 with a loader, at an auction. It will be used to do light farm work on a small farm. I don't want to sound dumb but could anyone tell me where to add the motor oil and where I can purchase a operators manual, I can find them for the 430 but not the 431. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks,
Teresa

#1--The 430 is a generic name for that size model. On the ID tag if it is still there, in the model number, if the 2nd digit is 3 it was built as a diesel engine and if 2nd digit is 4, then the engine was a gas. The 3rd digit was an indication of tractor style, utility, or row crop, or standard, or whatevers. May not have been religiously followed by the factory folks or could have been morphed in the years past. #2--A good Case dealer can get copies of manuals for that tractor right from Case in Racine. It will be listed somewhere around page 80 to 99 on the list. Farmalls are in the number sequence too so sort it out. Have fun with the Case. George S.

You could post this on the "Case" forum for more info. There are people there with vast amounts of Case experience. They will be happy (and more able) to help with any questions/problems.

A "431" is a "430". It can be confusing, but Case varied the last digit in the late 50's & 60's to distinguish between the various configurations of their tractors.

I have a picture of a 430 with a tricycle front which is labeled 441 but has a 430 decal. Another picture is labeled 431 but it is a low-profile tractor with a 430 decal.

Hope this helps.

oil goes in the cap in the top of the hood over the engine. I and T manuals are everywhere, ebay, this site, lots of places,I have one for 430,530,630,470 and 570,I'd take a ten dollar bill for.

Thanks for the help. Will the manual for the 430 be the same as the 431? If so I would gladly purchase yours. Could you also explain I and T

Thanks again,
Teresa

Teresa, the other folks are right on about a model 431 being part of the "430 series", and the tractors are all decaled as "430". On the oil question, my 470 diesel, my dad's 531 gas, and I think maybe some newer 430s, do not have a breather cap on top where you can add oil, but instead have an oversize dipstick tube - and you add oil through that opening on some of the tractors. "I & T" refers to "Implement & Tractor" service manuals. There is an I & T manual for the 430-530 series Case tractors, and the current manuals may combine a few more Case models as well. You can buy new ones in farm & home type stores, or on the internet. Hope you enjoy your 431, they were great little tractors.
