Mileage?

I have a cousin that comes to North Dakota every year from Illinois to go hunting. He always brings a trailer with him, and usually has a load going back with something of his grandpas that he is going to restore. I thought maybe I could try to find him a load going coming up, as well. My question is, what is the going fair rate for hauling? Is loading extra? He isn't looking to get rich, just maybe something to help pay for the trip.

I hauled a 706 farmall for a guy a while back ,I took it from St Louis to just outside Huntsville,Al. I was going that way anyway and I had a 12,000# empty trailer behind a 1 ton gasser. I asked for my fuel costs and a couple meals out of the deal. When I got there he handed me $200 which was well over my expenses at around $125 including eats. Everyone was happy. My trip was better than free and he got a tractor home for less than $1.00 per loaded mile for a 550 mile trip.

That's probably about the kind of deal we are looking for. Not trying to make a bunch of money, just cover the expenses. Also, don't want to give it away just cause he's heading this way - cheapskates that try and negotiate every penny need not apply, lol.

I have been trying to get tractors out of Texas home to Pa., but all I get is a bunch of BS from haulers. How much can you haul is a more appropriate question. If you can haul 4 tractors and another guy can only haul one, then the $1.00
per mile takes on a whole new meaning. I have had people quote me $.45 per loaded mile and then turn around, when you want them to do it and say that they meant $.45 per tractor per loaded mile. Well that is $.90 per loaded mile if you are hauling two. I have also been told that $2.00 per loaded mile to haul 1 tractor is fair. I don't think so, because there is a point at which it isn't worth doing. Try to be reasonable and you will be loaded all of the time.

I have seen on this site that the average is $1 per loaded mile.

That is sorta in the ballpark I had in mind. Not many list the rate on the hauling schedule, and on Ebay, most want $1.50 per mile - but I thought that was quite high. I could understand if you are trying to make a profit at it. It isn't like he's going back empty - so he doesn't need it to make up for the trip back.

Look to your left under 'Community", then look under hauling schedules.. You will also see what other guys are charging for hauling, and who wants what to be hauled and to where
