Some previous owner put a threaded insert in the spark plug hole of a Kohler air cooled engine (aluminum I think). I'm loosing compression through the outer threads, Any way to fix this?
What about oil mixed with gas to purposly carbon things up? Thank you.

If you can't seal it up with a new spark plug gasket, a machine shop can remove the Heli-Coil and drill and thread the head for a solid repair bushing.

Thanks for the ideas everybody. I drilled a hole in a beer bottle cap, and used it as a washer to expand the "footprint" of the plug past the thrd'd
insert. I put muffler cement on the underside as a sealer. Seems to improve compression. Will it last? We'll see!

I have never had great luck with heli-coils in heads some work, some don't. Originally should have had a lock tite type sealer to keep the insert from leaking and coming out. You could try to redo it if it is loose or I would try to find another head.

The seal should be on the top face, not the thread. Threads are not air tight unless coated with compound / plumbers tape. Try fitting a new washer to the plug or a new plug?
