As of about 5 years ago (last time I seriously checked into them), Struck Corp will no longer sell the tractor in kit form, only the attachments.

I wouldn't mind having one as my land can get a little spongy in the spring and fall, but found the cost to be prohibitive: Smaller machine was about $8k, and the larger one was over $15k, both spec'd out the way I wanted it (free engine upgrade, ldr, rear hitch w/hyd & pto, a couple of attachments). For that price, you could get a nice CUT.Also, loader and backhoe are NOT quick-tach.

I keep my eyes glued to the classifieds in hopes of finding a used machine, but I don't see any at a reasonable price (saw one that was asking more than what a new one would cost!). Either there aren't too many out there, or people who own them are keeping them.

Kurt: I've got one of their older ones--late '60's vintage with a hydraulic blade lift and a (transplanted) 7 HP Wisconsin. It's a nifty little machine--a real hoot to drive! I've done a fair amount of pushing and pulling with it, but if you work it REAL hard (for a 7-hp engine, anyway) it will throw belts.

Okay another question, if you had the 15HP kohler engine model dozer, 950 lb machine could you chug along scraping 2-3 inches of topsoil and rolling it over to flatten out a bumpy lawn? THe machine just seems to small to do any real work.

Kurt: Well, considering that I've done that with my machine, I don't see any reason that the larger one wouldn't do it..... Provided that you don't expect these machines to replace the D8 Cat that most people have setting in their garage, you'll be amazed at how much they'll do. It's a pretty quick job for anyone with basic fabrication tools and skills to make a "baby root rake" for one of these, and if you use this to loosen the topsoil, a Struck or similar dozer will do nicely for levelling topsoil.

I bought one in 1993 with a dozer blade, bucket and backhoe. A lot of differences from back in the '70's. Now, the tractors use an engine pump to drive hydraulic motors that move the tracks. There's another pump that provides pressure for the other hydraulics. I personally love it. I used it to dig my basement and help build my house. It's good for landscaping and moving logs. The only real consideration is speed. It's slow when compared to the full-size tractors or dozers. But if you have the time, it's fun, gets the job done and can get into small areas other vehicles can't go. If you keep the oil changed, tractor greased and things tightened, there's not much more maintenance. Have fun.

The 20 HP 5000 model. I think it cost around 13k 10 years ago. I'm not sure about the warranty but never had to use it. All the interaction I've had with the folks at Struck has been positive. If you email them or send away for their brochures, they can answer more questions.

I bought a new Struck mini-dozer in 1970. It arrived in a box in about a thousand pieces and it cost me about $500. It was good for dozing, grading, leveling, etc. I really got a lot of use out of it. Eventually the track chains became quite worn and, instead of buying new, I fixed up a chain tensioning device on each track utilizing some heavy springs to keep the tracks tight and yet allow them to roll over rocks, etc. The belts had to be replaced every year the way I used it and that became a real chore when the shafts became rusted. I sold it to a mechanic in 1985 for$500. I wouldn't buy another one. I don't miss it. I believe the Struck Co still sells them.

Have seen a couple...a guy traded one into the company I used to work for on a new Kubota. It was a nice little machine, had a blade and an after market (Sears) loader with it.
