Overheating

My Massey Furguesson 240 runs a little warmer than it used to. The water level is not low. Over time (about 2 hours) the temp continues to creep up. I guess if I kept running it it would overheat eventually but I have not used it lately for a long period of time. I plan to take it to the carwash where I can get some better water pressure and clean out the grill. Is the problem probably in not getting enough air or does the radiator probably need flushing.

Also, someone told me I may need to set the timing. Would that make it run hot and if so, how?

Sorry for such a simple question but thanks for any advice.

Timing set wrong is a possibility. Had a 235 massey ferguson overheating entirely from the cause of wrong distributor timing. Air passages clogged with dirt in radiator, screen, or grill is also a possibility. Other possibility's are malfunctioning thermostat or coolant system needs to be flushed out.

Hello fellow 240 owner. I'm guessing the raditor is full of old weeds ect. Use a garden hose to clean it out, high pressure spray might fold the fins over. Use an oven thermomter and check the temp of the lower hose, it should be 30% less than the top hose (engine) temp. If the raditor(heat exchanger) isnt working properly it wont cool. If it is cooling its timming fuel, ect. Is yours a diesel or gas?
