I found a nonworking 1994 Belarus 250 with 150 hours (owner says it was damaged by an enraged exwife pulling the wires...!!) anyway - the local dealer says the parts are available - before I buy it ...does anyone have experience with these tractors?

I've had a 250 for 3 years bought it with a busted crank. I had the entire motor apart and rebuilt the pressure plate. All the parts are available through Besears in Louisiana.

I like my Belarus 400A just fine. Sometimes it takes a while to get even routine parts, but for casual use it's great!

Richard, where are you located. I saw an ad for a
Belarus with 153 hrs in the quickquarter in Lafayette, La. I work in Lafayette. Live in Cankton. Besides that, I have had a 250 about 5 years, works real good for me. I get all my parts at Choates in Maurice. Its been a good tractor. No problems. Not pretty but strong. Let me know if you have any specific questions..Good luck...EC

Check on the availability of filters for one thing. If your buying from a Belarus dealer that would be a plus. If not, find out the location of the nearest dealer to you. Belarus does not have a very good dealer network and most dealers are not required to stock parts to support the tractors they sell. Heard of an instance where a owner had to pay over $30 for a small fuel filter the other day, something that would be under $10 for a domestic tractor.

If the filter canisters, or heads have lines running to them, you can convert them to aftermarket spin ons. I would suggest standard Cummins fuel filters as these are very common and cheap. Any filter dealer can sell you a conversion kit to change it over to the Cummins style fuel filters.

The oil filter is a little harder, because you have to consider the size of the engine, pressure etc. But again, I would suggest some type of Cummins filter. The dealers and filter companies generall don't want to help with oil filter conversion info, because they don't want to pay for an engine that goes bad from their advice. However, I have made these conversions with construction equipment with no problems. If we had an odd piece of equipment with odd filters I would convert it to something more standard. I also did this to replace most of the old canister filters with spin ons.

As a generall rule, use a filter that is as big or bigger than what is on the machine now. As I recall, some Belarus engines had an oil filter system that you cleaned and reused, so the oil filter may not be an issue for you.
