Never tried Amsoil, did use some Mobil 1 in car, seemed fine. But nearby Amsoil distributor bought new Dodge dually Diesel pickup about two weeks ago. Now has camper cover with wording on the back something like: "This truck has been driven 25,000 miles without an oil change. Ask me how". I doubt that I will ask him, but I do wonder how someone drives 25,000 miles in two weeks. That leads to the further problem of what else is not true regarding the things these folks say. Not knocking the product, but the distributors? I wonder!

Hello, I run a lube and fuels testing lab. We have done a lot of work on Mobil oils. They are great and they will outlast all the others. I don't know about Amsol. I have never seen their oils being tested routinely or even during the formulative stages. They just seem to make their claims based off of singular testing data. I have sen 100's of oils and they are blended to every spec imaginable, so who knows for sure.

No one mentions ATF, but I am convinced (without a doubt) that Mobil 1 ATF has made a significant difference in the performance of my 80k mile auto tranny. It is just slicker than the paraffin oils.

Amsoil is squeezed snake oil. Sold in back of circus tents. Tests are rigged. Mobil One has been tested by really independent labs for years, and is clearly the top of the heap. If you want a synthetic, use Mobil One and change at regular milage.

Used it in a Toyota back in the early 80's- distributor was a neighbor, he basically bugged me till I gave in. I will have to say- it did everything he claimed. Had been using a quart between changes- stopped using oil, period. Idle speed increased by about 150 RPM (less drag), engine more responsive, etc.

Let me put it this way...

I had a "sponsorship" by Amsoil of my race cars.
during the race year use of Amsoil, my maintainence costs doubled. Especially top end work. There was greater than previously recorded
wear on most engine components.

Once switching back to Mobil 1 the following year, was back to normal wear and tear.

I'll never ever use the stuff again.

The distributors do seem like they are in a cult. But it seems like the oil is good. In fact, someone posted a web site that was testing various brands of synthetic oil and Amsoil was looking good until my wife deleted the site. Does anyone know the name of the site doing the synthetic oil tests? By the way, you can run oil indefinetly if you clean it. I have seen systems using rolls of paper towels as "filters" and you can run the oil forever as long as it tests ok. Oil does not wear out, it gets dirty. I would not run it 25,000 but I would go 7500 if I was paying $5.00 a quart.

It's not paper towels, but toilet paper. I ran a '65 Travelall 304 over 80,000 miles with no oil changes. I'd still have it today if it didn't get totaled in '78. Just add a quart of oil with the paper change about 3000 miles. Always clean oil. I used the cheapest multi weight oil I could find. I also used rerefined oil which met one sequence higher than new oil, which was military spec.
Now toilet paper rolls have 25% less sheets and rerefined oil is no longer available even tho oil is recycled by the million of gallons.
