That is VERY confusing. All you really need to know is in 1837 some guy named John Deere made a plow out of steel that worked.Formed a company and it is still in business under the same name today. And for you that hate the color green there is another real old tractor company still using thier
original name, Kubota has been in business a long time also.

Mike M.Who said anything about disliking Green, if you check your history,John Deere a blacksmith from Vermont was invited by Leonard Andrus to come to Grand Detour as a mechanic on his stage line. Andrus and Deere together built the first plow from a used saw blade. This all stems back to the J.I.Case plow company.Read the book sometime Full Steam Ahead,J.I.Case Tractors and Equipment 1842-1955,Grand Detour Plow Company starts on page 258. NOT CONFUSING-JUST HISTORY!!!

Binder-Man; You said "who said anything about disliking green" If you read my post you will see that I did. I know that in the real world there is hate towards all colors, green ,blue, red, black and white.Hideing in the shadows. one mention and it pops it head up.I knew it was here thats why I offered another example of a company that hasn't sold out. If the story of Andrus and Deere working together is indeed how it happened, some little thing not recorded must have happened to let fate go one way and not make Leo Andrus a household name ?

And then years later Deere developed their own line of tractors...oh, wait...

In 1912, Deere & Company began selling a tractor made by another company and in 1914, Joseph Dain was asked to determine the feasibility of building a light tractor capable of pulling a 3-bottom plow to be sold for $700.

...Despite the quality and usefulness demonstrated in the AWD tractor, its list price of $1,500 was still considered too high to be practical.

...Then, the company purchased the Waterloo Gasoline Engine Company in Waterloo, Iowa, where the lower-priced Waterloo Boy Kerosene Burning Tractor could be built side-by-side with the AWD tractor. The Waterloo Boy tractor quickly became the company's workhorse.

This stuff's been goin' on long as there's been tractors.

Jeff; I really am confused on this red issue also. I was talking to someone just the other day about this. How could a company with good equipment - International Harvester- go so far down the tubes. They had the market share on farm equipment, had thier name on everything even home appliances. There are still lots of tractors and refrigerators and freezers still working today. Someone somewhere made some terrible bad decisions and ruined a good company. Oh and buy the way I really tripped the triggers on the others. LOL My trigger is just fine.

Just read a pleasant little history at their website,>Link

The>Link thumbnail:
When Case & New Holland merged, the European Union required they sell the Doncaster, England plant along with the European production & engineering rights to several tractors (50-100hp C, CX, MXC, and MX Magnum). Argo of Spain purchased these assests, and later also bought the St. Dizier transmission plant.

So today's McCormick is no longer part of Case-IH/Case-New Holland but is a brand of a totally different company. But McCormick has the right to produce essentially the C, CX, MXC, and MX Magnum tractors as they were in 2000 -- I'm sure as time goes by you'll see more and more differentiation as engineering diverges from the common heritage.

You are correct about all but the MAGNUM & MX MAGNUM Case/IH did not sell that tractor series. The MX MAGNUM is still built in Racine WIS.

Here's what little I know (or think I know).

Case-IH and McCormick are two different companies. Vermeer (USA) and McCormick Tractors (Doncaster, England) brought the McCormick name back to the US in early 2002. McCormick had been selling tractors worldwide beginning in early 2001. McCormick Ltd. was formed by Landini and its parent company, ARGO, after Case and New Holland merged in 1999. The McCormicks are made in Doncaster. From what I've read, the McCormicks have been well received and seem to be good products.

Recently, Case-IH (CNH) began producing small tractors up to 55 HP I believe with the Farmall name on them. Don't get to thinking that Farmall is emblazoned in 12" high letters on these new machines. The ones I saw had a rather small Farmall emblem on the front grill--definitely not first billing over the Case-IH label that I saw on the tractor. At least it's a start in reviving the Farmall name.

My opinion of the Farmall name revival was definitely not in step with the other opinions on this subject on the Red Power Forum.
