We are in France, but we are English! Have bought a 2nd hand DX4.70,have a manual on order from this site, now that I have found it!(wonderful), but it wont be here yet! Just bought (very necessary) hydraulic log splitter, but am unable to get the hydraulics to work the ram on it. The lifting rams on the back of the tractor work ok. The hydraulic pump strains engine, when levers 1 & 2 are moved? Can anyone help please. Thanks.

Deutz tractors use an "open-center" hyd. system. Looking at the back of the tractor on right side under the valves themselves, there might be a steel hyd. line with a "male" end on it. My friend has a Deutz-Allis 7085 which is basically the same tractor with the only major difference being the cu./in. of the engine(maybe). Other than that, the only other difference would be Deutz-Fahr vs. Deutz-Allis and the cab layout (Euro.) version. If your tractor doesn't have this line, hook up the splitter to one of the remote hyd. ports. If you can't hook it up with the tractor running, push the hyd. lever all of the way forward to the "float" position. If this doesn't work, shut off the tractor and move the hyd. lever back and forth. This will relieve the pressure.

I'd get ahold of your local DF dealer for questions.

I had a Deutz that had valves that had to be opened where you plug the hydraulic hoses in. I used a log splitter on it and it worked just fine.

I don't know anything about Deutz, but i am responding because I had the same suspicion as Red Eye Jack. I've hooked the Hyd. up on tractors that I'm familiar with, failed to get a good connection and had the same problem. I'm guessing your Hyd. is good, but that your missing something in the connection. Good luck.
