Please fellows, no politics or religion. This is such a great discussion place I would hate to see it killed. And believe me, either one would kill it in a short time. I've seen it happen befor. Once in a while an OT about how to kill a cat or catch a rabbit adds a little spice, but politics and religion have no end to opinion and brings out the worst and goes on and on. Just don't add to them.

No better way in the world to start a conversation about politics and religion than tell everyone not to do it.

I agree with you, but you are going to have a hard sell on this site. I think Kim should put a site up that is titled politics and religion and it could be the busiest page here. This one is titled Tractor Talk.

Warning! If you’re not interested in politics and/or religion do not read further! Click your browsers “Back” button to return to the main page and look for topics that interest you. Otherwise read on.

Let’s not forget that the people that make up this forum are the people that also made and continue to shape our blessed and great country. That’s right, they are farmers either by necessity or as a hobby and I hope that they all have convictions as to the state of our country which, incidentally, was founded and settled by our ancestors that believed all people have a God given right to religious freedom. So they set forth to put in place a political system to assure that all citizens would be afforded their rights without fear of persecution. It concerns me that we are continually being asked to not talk about the very topics that are the foundation of our heritage. I’m afraid that we have “not talked about it” long enough and this country, as we know it, is at risk.

In short, I’m not going to forget our history and the more I’m told to not talk about it the louder and longer I’m going to talk. So get ready to get a screen full or use your “Back” button. Thank God and the founders of our country that we have the option, also known as freedom. You could be in Turkmenistan.

May God Richly Bless You!

Marc

Coloken, While I feel your pain, almost, I must respectfully disagree with your assessment. Tractors and farming are indeed what we are all about, but we are also all about freedom and liberty, which, I'm sure you must admit, is being threatened. If you look at some of the O.T. threads, I'm sure you will agree that they create much interest, and sometimes seemingly endless replies, even though we don't always agree. Some of the people who frequent this site have little outlet outside this site to vent their frustrations or concerns, or, voice their opinions or point of view, which by the way I find to be one of the most wonderful web sites on the internet. Unlike many of the other sites in which the language becomes downright vulgar, this site is kept clean to the point to where people can voice their thoughts without censorship of content. I have friends and acquaintences here who I respect greatly even though we may debate an issue, tractors or otherwise. This is not unlike a bunch of guys sitting around the grain elevator or feed store discussing the same things being discussed here. Those guys dont always discuss farming, and they certainly don't always agree. I will submit to you, that if you feel uncomfortable with someone elses point of view, that you are unsure of your own and don't want it challenged. I welcome debate, as it does a couple things for me, either it substantiates and validates my point of view, or it makes me aware of someone elses and in some cases, causes me to realize that his has more merit than mine. I have never seen anyone get out of hand debating an issue here on Y.T. even though some of the debates have gotten rather heated. To think that politics and religion have no influence on farming and that they are not connected in some ways is short sighted in my opinion. It would be easy for me to say at this point that if you dont like the O. T. threads, then dont participate, and go on to bigger and better things, but thats not how I think. I would love to hear your point of view on a few things. To do so is to know you better. Frequently, I see an O.T. plea for prayer. It may be for someones health, life situation, or for safe return of our sons and daughters from harm's way. I would hate to see their pleas deleted or denied from this forum just because it may be O. T., and I think you would too. My comments here are open to debate, and differing opinion, including yours, Ken.

Fortunately, the webmaster here understands that & shares your feelings. She understands how easy it is to kill a good website.

If you see a thread that is bothersome, go to the 'Site Comments' area & send a note to Kim, giving the discussion area & message thread title. This brings such things to her attention, & if totally off topic, they go away.

For what it's worth, I don't agree with you. Collecting old tractors is a hobby and a luxury, and part of the freedom we enjoy as United States citizens. It's not just "politics" anymore, our way of life is threatened, and subsequently, so are our hobbies, families, etc. And, that threat no longer just exists from foreign enemies, it is also present here. It appears that the fight between our national efforts to protect our way of life is threatened by popularly accepted entities i.e and e.g the American Civil Liberties Union. Their title is an oxy moron. Personally, I like reading what people thing about such things who I know I share common interests with. If you don't like reading such comments, well . . . don't read them.

I see your point as well, however let's suppose you were a regular visitor to a political or religous discussion forum site (I'm sure there are such places on the web) and somebody posted a question relating to say the timing sequence on his Farmall M. I'm sure one of the regulars would respond that such posts were very off topic and probably not welcome at such a site. I guess your response could be used there too but it wouldn't really make sense. I can tolerate somebody posting some political or religious comment here but I can never figure out why they would do it.

AND...I see your point, as well....BUT why did you reply in this instance and....why did I?
Maybe Mark Twain said it best in his 'Letters From the Earth' :
"It is his nature. Always, the law of nature is the law of God; he is blameless."

number one-Didn't say we caint talk aboutt it I said we shuld not argue about it. number 2- to yuor questions-I don't make a hobby out of it so I don't get reel technickle on the distances but one of them was 310 paces. All i culd see was the fuzz of his body and the ears on each side of my crosshairs when I tuched her off. I've seen guys make longer shots but they was speciallized. I use a '48 model 99 in 250/300 and a 87 sierra spitser and 34 gr of 4064powder-cci primr. My scope is a redField 4 power w /plain old crosshairs. It's sited to shoot 3 inch high at a hundred yards which makes it ded on near 200yards. Thing is their was a big round of plag a few yearss ag o and there kinda scarce right now so I have not needed to shoot them as much out of the fields.

Hey Ken, Where are U in Colo? I agree with you that it is a bummer to get old. I just got out of the Poudre Valley Medical Hotel with a new stent in one of my major arteries. They said that my 7 year old bypass is in perfect shape however. Ed
