Sounds like a 310. Don't think they have harmonic balancers and if they do, don't know what could go wrong with it. Not likely it's just missing because you get to pull everything from the fuel tank back including the hydraulic pump to get it off. Anything wrong with the clutches and you get to separate the machine in half to repair. These clutches are wet and rarely wear out. Sounds like you need to have someone you can trust look at it. A good 310 should sell for about $10,000. You do the math.

Took me several years, thousands of dollars, lost personal time and un-needed frustration. To find out it really is cheaper to purchase equipment that is intact and working.

It would bring more than that here in Central New York State. Deere stuff goes high, even in bad shape. I tried to buy a 300 Deere hoe a few months ago. That's got the 3 cylinder 152 cubic inch diesel; maybe same as what you're looking at?
Also has the single cylinder swing setup on the hoe. Anyway, the one I looked at was REAL beat. No hood, the engine block was cracked where the front end bolts to it. Linkage on the hoe-swing was broken. Tractor was slipping in forward, i.e. shuttle-shift problems. Bushings and pins loose all over. Hydraulics chattered. Engine smoke a bit but supposedly was recently rebuilt. The guy was asking $4500, I was hoping to buy it for $2500. In a fit of frustration, I offered him $3500 and he wouldn't take it. The next week it was gone, so I assume he got his price. If the hoe you're looking at is a 300 and you don't want it for $2500, give me the contact information - maybe I'll buy it if it's not on the other side of the world.

Did he tell you that even though this is all it needed that these two items alone would be high dollar repair jobs?
