Hello - I have a JD 430 (1950's) and am only getting 6v at the terminals when it is running. We polarized the generator but still not more than 6v.. how should we determine if the generator is dead?

If you had the operators and service manuals you would know that all two cylinder spark igniiton Dubuque Deeres were 6V positive ground. 1-800-522-7448 for the books.

Pull the Neg battery cable off while the tractor is running. If it dies, the Gen is no good.

Have you checked the tag to make sure that is isn't a 6v generator? If it is supposed to be 12v someone couldhave changed it and not known the difference.

Ground the field and then if shows charge the reg is bad. You can run it with the field grounded.
