I have several small cracks in my steering wheel. Is there a way to repair without taking it off or having it recovered.

POR-15 has a kit of materials to repair steering wheels. Never tried it but there other products are good.

I use Bondo body filler. Works nicely, holds paint. I have one I did 7 years ago and it still looks good enough that it's hard to tell that it's not original.

A lot of people clean the cracks out and put JB Weld in them, then sand and paint. Looks good for shows, but don't know how well paint holds up on a working tractor. If you are just wanting functional, wrapping them with the old time friction tape works good, but is a little sticky for a few days until it gets some dust on it. I've coated them with Plastikote like they use on tool handles, it's available at most hardware and farm supply places. Doesn't look exactly original, but is good enough for me. www.por15.com also sells a steering wheel repair kit.

The POR-15 kit works great, but it's very pricey.
They sell the putty seperate, and that's the key. You'll use the putty for tons of other things too! Check this site for best prices, shipping, and tech support.

If it is a common steering wheel replacement might be easy. I replaced the wheel on my Farmall M with one from the Case IH dealer. $56.

I filled in several large cracks with a couple of layers of silicon. Then I wrapped the whole thing with black handle bar tape from the bike shop. It has been on for about five years with no sign of giving up. It also gives your hands a sure grip.

3M has a compound for filling cracks in those cheap plastic bumpers they are putting on cars these days, NAPA can get it.

I have used couple rools of black electrical tape. Pull it tight, looks ok and will last couple years. Won`t pass muster at tractor shows though.
