Guys!, The TA was a Delete Item on the tractors as other opitions. So A 54 SMTA (decaled with the winged decals) Could come from the factory without a TA.
Later,

As the others have said it was possible to buy a SMTA without the TA and a SMTA without a TA is different than a regular SM. The SMTA used a longer torque tube to connect the rear end and engine so it would have room for the TA, the SMTA would have this longer housing even if it didn't have the TA making it different than a SM.

A Super MTA without the TA is still a Super MTA - but the decal will not have the wing that says "Torque Amplifier" if it is correct.

TA and live PTO and live hydraulics were still considered an option. In fact, the TA was an option through the 86 series IH tractors...

There is more difference between a Super M and a Super MTA than just the TA.
According to Guy Fay the MTA also had:
Longer clutch housing, Independant PTO, Different front bolster, Different gearing in the transmission too.

Oh lord, not that one again! I asked this question about three months back and there was a lot of discussion about it. I posed that a "Super MTA" minus the "TA" was just a "Super M".
Seemed like simple algebra to me. It was proven to me, however, that virtually everything on the Super MTA was an option, including the TA, and that you could order it without the TA.
