Twice a year I need a right angle drill or a drill that I can get into restricted places. I've got a 3/8" electric drill, 18-v battery 3/8" and a 1/2" air drills. Are those add on attachments any good or should a guy go ahead an get a dedicated right angle drill? I mean at $80 that's $40 buck a hole, but if the add ons are junk...?

I don't know why they make standard drills. I have both a Milwaukee 1/2" straight and 1/2" angle drill. I only use the angle drill. It drills straighter and the control is much better. I think they are safer as well. I bought mine for $40 at a flee market. eBay probably has a bunch of them.

As the others said, really. The tool for the job is the way to go. An adaptor is always a compromise - and there are some good examples around - but I would bite the bullet and buy good and buy once!
I am sure you will get better value than $40 a hole as you find more jobs you might have compromised on building, or struggled to do easily. Anyway after that first year each hole would virtually free - just your way of accounting the cost.
Just my 02p worth.

I've used both, and if you can any way justify the dedicate right anglw, it is definitley the way to go. The adapters require both hands to be able to get into the work area, and are eadier to misalign. You will find the right angle to be handy much of the time doint regular drilling, due to it;s being more stable.

I have a couple of the add ons and I have found by the time you put it on and the drill bit you don't have room to use it any way. So yes a right angle drill is better and may even work where the add on won't
