I list a tractor for sale on the classifieds and the only bite I get is from somebody who wants to send me about 3 times what I asked for in the form of a cashier's check.

Hey Les, would it make you feel better if I offer you 3 times LESS than you asked? I'd even give it to you in CASH MONEY! Genuine US dollars! Matter o' fact, I'd do it for any of you guys bothered by those stupid scammers! ;)

But you already know that. Come to expect now, huh, Les?

All they need is a newbie lister to fall for it.

Thanks for the reminder. You may have saved someone else some trouble.

I once emailed the theif back on one of our ads.
I told him I'd follow his request just as soon as his check cleared my bank. I also said that it might take 10 days to clear because the bank was fussy that way. Never heard back from him.

I don't even read that stuff past the first line or two, and no, I didn't read yours either. They are all the same.

Here's the text of his comeback email to me. So nice that he's concerned with my family, eh?
alright, dont worry about the price. but there is a kind of negotiation that i want to seal up with you. i am ready to give you a chashiers check drawn oin a us bank but on a condition. you see , there is a client of mine in the united states owing me some certain amount of money. He told me to come and pick the check up that he has issued it out without any name on it and i have already told him that i will be travelling to an africa country and i will have to send someone down to him to pick up the check but since i am on a negotiation of getting your equipment i have decided that the check will be issued out in your name . He is suppose to give me the sum of $5,500. I dont want a situation whereby you will tell me that the check is not cleared thats why i want you to cash the money first. The only thing that remains to do for me is that my client will send you the check and you will take the check to the bank and whenever the check clears you will then help me to wire the remaining amount to my shipper via MONE GRAM who will make arrangement for the pick up of the equipment. at this point i want to know if i can put a little trust on you concernig this business. if you are ready for me then i will need the following info from you . name ... adress... zip.code.. tel no.. i will be expecting your reply.
say hello to your family.
richard

He already has my name, address and phone # so I don't know why he asks for that. It's right there in the ad.

Les, this still stinks of the cashier's check fraud scam. Just different wording. The catch in that scam I think was that the check clears here with a delay back to them or something. I forget the details. I wouldn't touch this deal with anyones 10 foot pole. Loren

I was especially impressed with the professional way that the thing was worded with correct spelling, grammar, sentence structure, syntax, etc.
