stuck clutch - MF50

I am considering purchasing a gas '58 MF50 with loader. The clutch is stuck - there was a small amt. of water under the inspection cover, and condensation-type rust on the clutch parts. Does anyone have any neat tricks for where to pry or tap to free this up, or is breaking apart the tractor and doing a clutch job the only hope? I tried putting the tractor in gear with the bucket and blade down, and even dragging a lot of dirt, it won't free up the clutch.

Thanks!

Steve

I drove the tractor home on Sat, and as I neared an intersection, I put in the clutch, and with a 'bang' it popped loose. It seems to work well, now. Thanks for all the advice. I guess it wasn't as stuck as all the rust made it look.

Remove the starter, tie the clutch pedal down, and bend an old kitchen knife blade at a 90 degree angle about 2 inches from the end. Through the starter hole you can work this tool in between the clutch disc and flywheel, and loosen it (may have to turn the flywheel a bit at a time to go on around before it comes loose). Come to think of it, hot water sounds easier.

Pour boiling hot soapy water over the clutch-pressure plate, then work it. Not just hot water but actually boiling. take plate off bottom to let water out. If no inspection plate on top of bellhousing, you may have to remove starter & funnel it in there. This method will work if anything will.

Heres an idea tie the pedel down and leave it that way for a few days and if you can spray some thing like turpentine up and on the parts. If the brakes are good after you do that you could jack it up just enough for the tires to spend freely and start it up and put it in high gear and hit the brakes hard off and on and see if it pops loose. Works well on my 8N when I forget to block the pedel down.

Give it a good workout and keep trying while you hold the clutch pedal down. If it is stuck it will come loose.

The condensation is normal.

I have had good luck with pouring-spraying gas on the disc.

Check this out before puting gas in the flywheel housing.
