I am looking at what the owner calls a ford 600, it is a ford but all numbers are painted over. It looks to be in good solid shape with no major leaks. Starts and runs good. He says it has about 35 horse off the pto. It has a good solid loader with a power bucket. He is asking $3500. Are there any opinions?

When you say the numbers are painted over, they are stamped into the metal. Easy to pull them out.

If it doesn't have PS, you will get frustrated at it immediately. I'd look on.

Thank you both. It does not have power steering. I will try to get him down a bit on that price otherwise I will keep looking.

Nothing wrong with a good 6v.

Is it a poorer 640 without live pto and a 4 speed, or a better 660 with live pto & 5 speed, does it have power steering, and so on? Things like that would make a $1000 difference to me. Paint is insignifigant.

I like mine. The 600 is a good old utility tractor. They seem to be in the $2700-$3200 retail range in NH. Parts are relatively inexpensive compared to other tractors and relatively easy to install. I'd recommend getting or building a counterweight considering the loader and getting chains if you're driving in the snow. Also, consider converting it to a 12 v if it is not already.
