Just bougth this tractor and it really misses badly when when reved. At low idle it runs ok but does burn some oil.Blueish smoke. When reved and missing it blows alot more smoke and it's darker, brownish grey. Also there seems to be diesel fuel in the motor oil and diesel fuel in the injector pumps oil compartment. When I checked the level plug on the side of it diesel came out. I can't afford to spend $1000 on a rebuild right now for the injector pump. Anyone have any ideas, service manuals or knowledge in general to share with me would be great. Also, has anyone converted to a rotary pump? I see them on ebay alot in new, rebuilt and used condition and they bring alot less than the cost of getting mine rebuilt. Thanks for any help and info. LB

YOUR FUEL PUMP IS A SIMMS NOT A CAV! I HAD THE SAME SIMILAR PROBLEM WITH MY 384 AFTER FITTING NEW FUEL FILTERS DISSMANTELING AND CLEANING THE FUEL LIFT PUMP NOT THE MAIN FUEL PUMP! AND PUTTING FRESH ;[SUPER UNIVERSAL]; TRACTOR OIL IN THE ENGINE AND FUEL PUMP AND HOOKING IT UP TO A BIG MUCK SPREADER FOR A DAY THE PROBLEM DISSAPERED. I THINK THE REASON THAT THERE IS FUEL IN THE ENGINE OIL IS THAT THE LIFT PUMP SEAL IS LEAKING . AND THE MISSFIRE IS PROBABLY A BLOCKED INJECTOR OR WORN INJECTOR.

diesel in the pump housing may mean a cracked or loose pump unit cylinder. it's really a job for the expert. inline pumps are usually very reliable and work trouble free for thousands and thousends of houres. maybe your best solution is to fined a used pump (that was kept sealed or istalled) and just bolt it on.
