Which is cylinder #1? on 9N

Okay, this may seem stupid, but which is cylinder #1 on a 9N? The one near the front of the engine or the rear? I looked through my repair manual and can't find the answer anywhere!

All engines that I have run across #1 is always the front cylinder..... ...

Technically - the number one cylinder is wherever you put the plug wire on the #1 distributor cap - but officially, it is the cylinder closest to the fan (sorry, my humor is not appreciated by some...). Don't forget, on the 9N the firing order is 1,2,4,3.

The only tractor that I know of that counts number one in the rear is a Deutz. All US tractors have number one in the front.
