Took my Herbicide/Pesticide tests today. Over 100 questions on each aspect. Towards end of day my mind got all confused on the various formulas - gpa, gpm, fps, total a.i. needed blah, blah blah.

Will know in 3 wks. if I passed then I get to pay the state MORE money to get the license issued.

Just ramblin at the mouth er, keyboard. . .

Hoping that I pass also. Private Applicator to the tune of $100 on Core manual, $50 for Supplement, another $15, on a 1 day workshop, $100 for the State Test, (non-refundable)and if I pass another $60 for the license. Good for 4 yrs. but must show a minimum of 8 State CEUs every yr. with ad-hoc State Inspection of records.

If I pass and get my license I will inviting inspector out for the first applications to ensure I am compliant. Would rather be proactive and get cooperation and compliance upfront rather than waiting for an issue or ad-hoc inspection finding an error.

Who would have thunk old iron would become so intense :)

Well, I took my tests in December. General standards, Field Crop, Turf, Right-of-ways and Grain Facilities. I hold 4 State of Illinois licenses!: Commercial Applicator, Commercial Applicator Not for Hire, Commercial Operator and Private Applicator. That's $90 worth of fees plus the $60 to take the refresher course and the test. And to top that off I also have Certified Crop Advisor status.

Wow!
That CCA looks to be very comprehensive. I may come to you vs. seeking this certification myself :)

Congrats on a job well done.

I can honestly say that I am glad we got out of farming right before it got to this point. Last time my dad took the "cide test it was a one night deal and about a half page of questions.

I've got $25,000 in college loans, 5 years worth to get a degree for teaching. Now I get to start a job next fall that pays about $18,000/year. $400 per semester on books, and now I'm paying to do my student teaching - I pay them to do work!

Not to tell my age, but in the early 70's I did a report for American Government class. I sent off for a book on the rules and regulations for selling Wheat in America. I didn't get what I asked for, but did get a very nice 2,500 page book on the rules and regulations for selling Lettuce. It occured to me that no one is selling lettuce legally in this country. And that was not a misprint on the number of pages.

And we americans wonder why business has such a hard time in the market place. It is because of all the regulations and restrictions like licenses, and litigation.

Couple that with the fedgov incentive programs (subsidies) to "invest" overseas and the other billions pumped into foreign economies = outsourcing of USA jobs :(
