We had a tragic accident last night on a west Michigan freeway. A semi driver apparently fell asleep, and ran off the road - overturned and burned. His cargo LIQUID aluminum>>>> Yup, Liquid aluminum at 1,200 degrees. How they can haul that stuff at that temperature on the public roads is beyond my comprehension. How they can even keep it liquid for any length of time is a mystery to me. Next time they send a shipment of that, please let me know, I want to be on the other side of the county!

That's only dangerous to a small circle where it crashes. The really dangerous loads are those that turn to gas (poision or flamable) or are radioactive. You have no idea - if you are worried about molten aluminumn. :)

In a die casting plant I worked in the 70's we took delivery of 16,000 lb (?) batches of molten aluminum once or twice a day. It was trucked about 75 miles from from a smelter on the Canadian border.

No difference carrying that or 7000 gallons of gasoline.Gas,liquid hydrogen, liquid oxygen, diesel and kerosene gets hauled everywhere at all times. Just an unfortunate turn of events that caused the accident.

Hadn't heard of liquid aluminum being hauled, but around here the scary loads are "liquid sulfer." It is kept hot and is a really nasty chemical to deal with. I have told my boys that if they see one of those tankers driving down the road... to give it a wide berth. They haul it right through the middle of towns around here. I can't even imagine what all we don't even know about, that is hauled right by folks homes and schools all the time. :(

Out here they ship Rocket Fuel right through the center of town!Even if it doesn't go off,the fumes will still kill you.But they do it at night so nobody notices! This stuff is so bad if you can smell it,you're already dead.
