I was using Vise-Grips to install my manifold studs and have been marking them up and making gashes in them. Is there a better way to install them??? Thanks in advance.

Next time, get a heavy nut that fits the stud threads and a ball bearing that's larger than the ID of the nut. Weld the ball securly to the top of the nut. Now the nut can be used to turn in the stud to the required torque value, and it will not jam on the stud when removed.

Get two nuts that fit the stud. Screw one about halfway down, then screw the other one right up against it. Now, you can use a wrench to tighten the stud using the top nut as the bottom one will keep it from turning.

Good luck,
Dan

Thanks! I went out to the barn and put the rest of the studs in. It worked good. Too bad I tore up the ones that I did. Those studs are not cheap! Thanks Dan.

I wasn't sure how tight to make them so I just tightened them until there was no more tread showing.
