I recently bought a Farmall 504 gas and it has a 6 cylinder engine, live PTO, T/A, and a 2 pt. hitch. I have been checking on the internet for information on it but can find only 4 cylinder models. Did Farmall make a 504 with a 6 cyl. engine or did someone swap it? The emblem on the grill says 504.

Thanks alot guys, I will start looking for casting numbers to see what hybred I got. Does the 504 and 606 share the same chassis? Any more help you can lend will be appriciated.

On same topic I have wondered why IH didn't make a 606 Farmall. My 504 gas does ok but some more juice would be nice sometimes. Think 236 out of 460 will fit?

IH did make a 606 farmall I worked at the local IHC dealer for a week in the 60's and they had a 606 Farmall D on the lot.

504s were produced with the C-152 4 cylinder motors. Someone inserted a 6-cyl in yours. I'll bet that was a neat trick. However, verify if your 504 is really a 504. Check the S/Ns and casting codes. Perhaps someone swapped some sheet metal from a 504 and put it on a larger tractor. Look for the casting code on the engine block as to what it may be. My guess is a C-221.

Check below for our 504 page and see if your machine matches ours.

Liked the story about your dad. Makes me think about the sounds and smell of our 560D.

The 04 in 504 indicates four cylinders. You either have a 606 (only made as a IH utility model) or a 504 (made as row crop or ulitity) with the 460 or 606 engine swapped in. Although I have not done it, I believe the six cylinder will fit in nicely. There is alot of wasted space in a 504 between the water pump and radiator. The two tractors models share nearly everything but the engine.
