I just bought a JD 2510 gas syncro-mesh with a narrow front end. I was wondering if anybody knows if I can put a diesel engine in (its kind of tough to find re-built diesel that size) without doing anything special to it. I was also wondering if a wide front end for a 4020 would bolt up to the roll-o-matic thats already there. Anybody know where to find a diesel engine that size for a reasonable price?

The 2510 gas is a collectors tractor or a peak season odd jobs tractor on a working farm. For the money invested in purchasing a 2510 and converting it to diesel. You could have had at least a brand new econo Deere 03 series and even a 5105/5205 with four wheel drive and warrenty.

I did this one time, don't do it $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
But an engine from a 2020, 2630 or a 3300 combine will bolt up to the transmision. You will have to do fram work so the oil cooler will fit.
Main trouble you will have is the bigger engine is hard on the transmision (a 2510 gas is 50-hp on a good day the 2630 will get 70-hp, lots of torque) I put 5th. gear in to mine two times.
Sell the 2510, the price of transplanting will bemore then a good 4010 of 4020 with what you want on it.
4010 engine in a 2510??? NO.. dad

A 219,239,239T,or 276 will go in the tractor with a minimal amount of work. You may need the bell housing adapter, oil pan, water pump and flywheel off of your engine, plus associated gaskets and seals depending upon how the replacement engine is configured. The air intake and piping will have to be changed/adapted,you'll need a second battery and box along with cables,a diesel starter,change/adapt the throttle linkage, some rewiring. You would also be wise to replace the clutches, and have the radiator rodded out while they are out.You are looking at about $1000+ in parts and outside labor,30 odd hours of shop labor, plus the cost of the replacement engine, which will be in the $2-3000 range for a good used engine. All told, you will be in the $5500-6000 range to do it. The 4020 w/f will bolt into the 2510.

I have a 2510 that I farm with that I've owned for 30 plus years. I replaced the gas engine w/ a diesel about 6 yrs. ago. the only mod. was with the air intake and the linkage to the pump.I did it because the tractor had paid for it's self and it had new tires . your case why not trade for what you want.... mike

Why did you buy something so far from what you want? You're going to have enough in it if you do this to have gotten something nice and what you really wanted instead of some Rubb Goldburg setup that won't work well anyway or are you just day dreaming?..... ....
