Help to a new amature tractor owner. I have recently bought an IH 1086 at an auction. There was one apparent problem with it then. It needed ether to get it started. Being ignorant I attributed that to the weather. Once it started the injection pump will not idle. It will not recover from idle. It used 2-bottles of ether and a jump to get it to stay running with high idle. Once I got it home, after letting it run for two hours, to charge the batteries, I noticed an oil leak. A friend told me that it is comming out of "Blow by tube."
Any suggestions or recommendations. Thank you and may the Lord Richly Bless you.

George just a few questions. When you start your tractor and go to high idle & drop it back to low idle is then when it dies and is hard to start. If so it is your fuel injection pump. Remove it and have it rebuild or you can get a Re-man from your Case/IH dealer. If you let it run for two hours and you have some oil comming out of the blow by tube I would not get to worried.

Once its rebuilt your starting problems might go away.

It sounds like you may have made an expensive purchase, unless, of course, if the price was right!
