As the other fella said, Torque Amplifier. As I understand it, it's a sort of planetary gearset that allows you to pull a lever and go down about half a gear without clutching.

Handy when you're plowing and hit a tough spot, for instance.

It's a sort of "under drive"... you basically have a dual range of gears to select from ... a high range and a low range. Low range = more torque, less speed.
