Gear Oil bubbling out!

I have a 1958 FARMALL 450gas. When I drive it around it leaks gear oil out of the breather cap on top of the pto housing. I've been told that it may be due to the seal between the pto and rear gear housing that is bad. If that is what is actually causing the overflow, what is involved in replacing the seal? What else might be causing the overflow? The oil level isn't even up to the level plug on the side of the gear housing!

A couple of things come to mind. Are you sure it is gear oil, someone could have filled the housing with hydraulic oil,or motor oil, both of which will foam from the planetary spinning. Is the housing getting hot when it's leaking, slipping pto brake band, bad bearing(s)or worn planetary set will overheat the oil and cause it to boil out the breather.

BrokenWrench,

I don't even have the PTO Engaged/spinning! It happens while just driving the tractor. What is coming out does look like it's "Air whipped" but it's thick like gear oil when it run's all over the PTO housing! It's manilla colored! I thought oil got that way from getting water in it, but I don't know how water could have gotten in the PTO or Gear housing.
