Oliver Owner, I too am way past the hip replacement for the same reasons as you. Was going to have it done after Christmas, but then there were pulls coming up.lol I can tell you this my dad has his done at 84 after putting up with pain for many years, 2 weeks after he had it done you couldn't keep up with him, no cane, and couldn't detect even a limp, said the last pain he had was just before thay gave him a shot. I have set my tractor up for 7500# and that is where it will stay, should have done it sooner. There is a new operation called (The Zimmer Minimally Invasive Solutions), (MIS),SAYS RECOVERY AND REHAB is faster and easier. Instead of a 10 to 12" incision it is now only 2,1 1/2 to 2" incision and not having to cut through muscle and tendons witch is what causes the slow recovery time. To make us feel better it says over 150,000 total hip replacements are done in the US each year. lol To see if there is a surgeon close, you can go to www.pacewithlife.com or call 1-866-FIND-MIS My freind I'm with you on this, as nothing is for sure in any operation, as my Doc said there is always a chance of blood clots and getting the new in a degree or 2 off, but the chance's are slim. Please keep us up on your decision and best of luck always, Bob
