Just got a new truck and need to remove the dealers name from the tailgate. It is a small transparent sticker with his name on it. Whats the best way without damaging the paint.

As I do, tell the dealer if he wants me to buy a truck from him, then he has two choices, take off the sticker, or I will leave it for a nominal fee for advertsing, you would be surprised how easy that sticker comes off then, but his has to be done before the check is written.

Dealers & body shops have a special solvent that removes them without hurting the paint. Might be worth paying them a few dollars to do it, rather than risk damaging paint.....

heat it up with a hair dryer and it will peel right off.

I agree, and if there is any residue left from the adhesive, this can be removed with a little rubbing alcohol on a soft cloth.

Ditto! I've removed decals from 5 yr old vehicles with a heat gun. Getting started is easier if a knife blade is used to lift the corner of the decal; it lifts easily when hot enough. You must be careful though, the surrounding paint is hot also and may marr from the slightest scrape. Nowdays there is a special decal remover sold at body shop supply stores.

Best thing for removing the "sticky stuff" left after the sticker is gone is WD-40. Just spray on a little and the sticky will come right off, and no chance of fading the paint!
