I have a 1941 Allis Challmers B restored, with new tires, paint, and rebuilt engine. A gentleman with family ties to the origional owner has offered me a 1950 Ford F-1 pickup for trade. The truck runs good and was painted about 15 years ago. It has been kept in a shed and is in pretty good shape. My question is, Would you trade? I have other tractors and would like the truck but I have no idea of the value of this truck. Thanks for any imput.

Thank you gentlemen for your replies. Even though I haven't made many posts, I have been visiting this board almost every day for the last 2 years. Usually if I have a question, I can find the answer in the archives. Many times the question I need to ask is asked just before I ask it. I am going to pursue the trade. I'll let you know if and when it works out. Thank you.

It will give you a warm fuzzy feeling to give some history back to a family (most of mine was sold by my sisters). An old truck would be great!
Heck I'd swap my restored 44 handstart JD A for a decent 48-53 chevy 1/2 ton in a New York minute!

Do the trade right now. Old pickups have really been going up in value. That old Ford would bring about $4,000 right now as it sits, and about $7K for a really nice one. It is worth more than the trac.

The other fellow surely knows this and is willing to leave money on the table to get the tractor back. I would trade, but offer him something else as well to make it a little fairer.

I have had 2 situations where the sons of a older gentlemen came back to me after Pops passed on and offered to buy back what belonged to thier Dad, returned a gun and returned and a guitar, no problem, after all it is going back to the rightful owner.A trade would work for me.

I would probably make the trade even if I get the short end of the stick. I'm sentimental and would want the tractor back into the hands of family.

I'm working right now with a fellow whose grandfather bought my 1949 Chevy truck brand new. I'm the third owner. I'd like to see the family get it back.

I'd like the Ford. Maybe he could buy it from you and trade it to me for my truck.

Really, only you can answer this question.

Me? I'd make the trade. I could haul more tractor parts home in the truck than the tractor could carry truck parts.
Besides, that old truck would look good taken one of them other tractors to a show. Truck's age would allow licsensing it under antique insurance and plate in Mich.
Have fun.

Fern, Its an impressive sight to see a vintage truck hauling vintage tractors. Michigan law makes it nice in that antique licences are a one time cost. Even a 1950 F-100 will handle a trailer and tractor for short distance shows. I saw an International KB-3 6 cyl. dually with a gooseneck and a Farmall "H" and Cub which made an awesome display. 50 mph tops, but who cares.

Gerald -

This has to be your decision but I am pretty good at telling other people what to do with their resources! If it were I, I would make the trade in a heartbeat. Allis B's are so common you could probably find one at Sam's Club. However, Ford F-1's that reun and are in decent shape aren't just lieing around all over the place, and, have a much greater value than an Allis B.
My $.02.

It sounds like a good trade to me. Them Allis Bs are pretty common. I'm guessing they're a lot more common than the truck in question.
As far as $$ value goes, I'd say it's a great deal.

That would be a question only you can answer. Without even considering the dollar value of each one, if it were me I would probably trade if I wanted the truck. But as I say, the main thing here is which you would rather have, it or the tractor.
