The question I have is there standards for tractor engines in term of interchangability. Will several makes of engines fit on the same tractor tractors?????

Partially depends on tractor- some Massey-Harris , some Olivers, some Cockshutts had various engines -Continental, Buda, Chrysler, Perkins, Detroit used in same basic frames. Model numbers varied depending on Engine- rest of drive train was same. Note that a seperate frame design was easier to change engine as compared to engine bellhousing bolted to transmission and front of engine bolted to steering. IH350D was a Continental instead of IH engine. Check archives- Massey 101? Chrysler 6 cylinder or 4 cylinder continental variations on otherwise same transmission, etc. Waukeshaw/Continental/Buda possible variations for manufacturer varying times. Oliver models Detroit diesel/other make gas engine. No industrial standard, manufacturers varied, engine builders sometimes built to tractor makers specs. RN
